While doing some research for Samantha's 5th grade report we discovered she's related to
John Howland.
That's just cool.
John Howland, one of the 102 English passengers who came to New England from Holland and England aboard the ship Mayflower in 1620. John Howland was born about 1592/3. He came to Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620 as a servant to John Carver. During the Atlantic voyage, he was swept overboard and rescued. He also served as a member of the party that explored Cape Cod before the landing in Plymouth.

Other notable descendants were Joseph Smith Jr, Barbara Bush (I think the mom) Both Bush Presidents and some notable poets ....It's amazing how the future of this country was determined by a few determined people.

Hey, so are we! We always loved having an ancestor in the history books. And we loved to think about how we wouldn't even exist if they had let him wash out to sea! My mother gave each of our kids a book about him a few years ago. History is dang cool! (You don't know me, I have lurked here forever. I first came from Ashley's blog, I think, and I play bunco with Andrea)
