Before I leave...

I thought I better have at least ONE post in October 2010 wouldn't you say? It has been an incredile month-so many fun happenings!

The main thing is that Dave and I are going to Journalfest this week and can you believe it-- we're going to be gone on Samantha's 13th birthday! We talked to her about it months ago asking her how she felt about us leaving and if she would reather we didn't, she assured us it was fine! Love that girl! I asked her what she would want to do for her bithday early before we left and she said a "mini journalfest weekend" so that is what I planned! Little did she know I had secret plans to fly my niece Madison down here for it! (Ali came too!) We had the best 3 1/2 day girl's weekend ever (we had "13" surprises for her all throughout the weekend! her and Madison had a wonderful "grown up girls" time together--they rarely get to do that with so many little cousins!) We taught Ali and Madison how to art journal and I think they fell in love with the process! My secret plans to convert the whole world to the benefits of it are slowly taking shape! Muahahahaha!

Journalfest 2009 in a few words.

Everyone keeps asking me to blog about Journalfest, and I'm not sure why I haven't yet! So here we go... a QUICK overview of an AMAZING experience!

First off here is a view from the side of the road, where Sherrie (Sherrie and I have been "online" friends for 2 years this is the first time we met!) and I were "lost". We were "lost" but not "lost" for about 2 hours taking a tour of downtown, trying to find the entrance to the Ferry. It turned out to be a good thing--as we didn't have a chance to see much of it later even though we planned on it for Sunday!

We did manage to get to Fort Warden in time for the opening night introduction, then we managed to find our UPSTAIRS dorms with NO elevator (That wouldn't have been a problem even with the 150lbs of luggage I had for vendor night, but I guess I didn't mention the "plane" incident...My knee was damaged and CRACKED as loud as you can imagine when I was asked to move so someone ELSE wouldn't have to sit in the middle...long story. Luckily there was an AMAZING lady sitting next to me who took good care of me while sobbed for an hour! And...yep you guessed it she was going to Journalfest too!). The next day when it was light this is what I saw! This place is GORGEOUS sadly my camera skills don't do the place any justice!

The first day I had a class with Ty Schlutz, it was INCREDIBLE! Guess who was in my class? The amazing lady Julie from the plane! We had a great time!

The second day I had Anahata Katkin! It was a FREEING class for me, I really learned that there are no rules and you've got to stop thinking there are! It was truly inspiring for me! Here are the two pages I worked on in her class!

The next day I had Roxanne Padget...again no pictures! AHH! But it was super FUN class, that is really the word for it, we made tons of backgrounds and used all sorts of items to paint with because there were "no brushes allowed!".

Somewhere in all that fun Sherrie and I did our first vendor night at an event. It was a learning experience in a good way, we'll know what to do better next time. But it was a huge success we sold out of our CD's in about 35 minutes! But the best part was being able to teach/talk to people about incorporating "digital" and "mixed media".

One of the amazing things was meeting Teesha and Tracy Moore. They really ARE as generous, fun and talented as everyone says they are who meets them! The event was amazing and I feel SO LUCKY I got to be part of the first ever Journalfest!

After Journalfest Sherrie and I got to spend a few hours at Pike's Place Market. All I can say is W.O.W! It's a wonderland for your senses!

Somer Lovin'

Somerset Studios that is.
I've had enough of the Arizona heat and I'm so grateful it's cooling down! Time to sit in the studio with some warm apple cider or hot chocolate and curl up with my favorite reading. (Okay it's still 90 here but a girl can dream).

Look at all the deliciousness just waiting to be devoured.

Just realized I blogged two days in a row about Somerset! Must be in my creative brain!

So what do you do when...

You're renting a house with a classic 1970's conversation pit (what WERE they thinking????) with a fireplace (which was being used as a temporary office for the tax season)?

I decided it was time to have a place where I could "create" I've missed my studio so much since our move! A temporary one is better than none at all right?

a workin' day & a blessin' day

I've been working long hours the past few days getting my new grab bag up in the store over at Scrapbookgraphics.com



Plus some collage sheets and stuff, but you can check that out over in the shop I won't use up more room on my personal blog ;). I do love to restore all those old pieces of vintage ephemera! Truly makes me happy!

Then today...out of the blue and when we needed it most a check just showed up in the mail. seriously a check we didnt' expect a refund on some insurance we paid on our house we didn't' need, so they just sent the premium back! what a blessing. it's these little miracles in life that I just treasure, a true confirmation of faith and choosing to be happy.

Hope you all have a small but precious miracle happen in your life today.

sunday studio.

i had so much fun in my studio tonight. made some atc cards for a swap at mystic paper. i've never participated in one and I'm quite giddy with excitement.

But first did you hear about this? Holy Moly! Me and Stacy the other day were talking about "what flavor" is Dr. Pepper, it really isn't a flavor you can explain! It's not cherry, it's not cola etc. Anyway! That is the best $200 bucks spent ever! lol!

Okay so back to the task at hand! Look at this Studio! Or all the pictures of her Studio from Flikr! I have been getting all kinds of fabulous ideas for my studio now to just get started on it! That is half the battle!

Today was another wonderful day, worked this morning and got a lot done, then I had a meeting with my mom for a few hours trying to convince her to give digital scrapbooking and altered art a go! Then it was some fun time with the family, Samantha and Dave went swimming. we had Merrill for a little while. then my sister, mom and I went to Hobby Lobby to look for things to make bags for girl's camp! found some fabulous urban princessy looking stuff!

And of all things, I found my artspiration for life.

woWoEeeEEEee. i'm not sure I shall ever resurface. her art is calling to me on a level i can not even begin to describe.

*sigh* heaven. heaven on earth.

 my sweet hubby has agreed i need my studio back. but there is no extra room in this house, so we've decided to convert the "pit of despair" into some semblance of a studio for me. (The "pit of despair" is a loving name with reference to "The Princess Bride"--in the house we are in for the time being-- it's a "sunken" pit. literally. with fireplace and carpeted wall to wall benches *oh the sweet 70's architecture*...since we don't sit around the fire singing Kumbaya every night it's very wasted space!) this will be the biggest challenge ever to make it my own!
